72 Hours Clinical Mentoring
You’ll have around 8 hours every day with a Medical Doctor working full time as your teacher and mentor with no more than 3 other students. This exceptional level of educational support is central to the uniquely intensive learning experience the program provides.
Hospital Doctor/Nurse Shadowing
You’ll have 6 days with your mentor observing or assisting (depending on your training and qualifications) on the clinical front lines, with specific settings selected to align with your personal learning objectives.
Tribal Village Medicine Experience
You’ll spend a full morning in a small group audience with a practising traditional healer in a remote tribal community, with your mentor there to interpret and help you make the most of this unique opportunity.
You’ll then spend the afternoon with families in the village community, helping you to understand their way of life and how both preventative and curative healthcare are approached much as they have been for centuries.
Premium Accommodation
Our brand new lodge, opened in 2024 on our hilltop field campus and exclusively for program participants, provides a wonderful balance of comfort and social life.
All Your Food
Our in-house chef and her team prepare all of your meals fresh at the lodge using local, seasonal ingredients and catering to a wide range of tastes and appetites! Vegetarian options are always available on request, and we do our best to accommodate other dietary requirements.
All Field Campus Facilities
Our field campus provides a focussed learning environment immersed in nature on a hilltop above the Ruaha River valley. The campus is also the social heart of the program, a place to come together, relax and socialise at the end of a busy day.
All Local Transport
We provide all of your transportation between the field campus, hospitals, villages and other learning settings in private buses and 4x4s.
Arrival & Departure Airport Transfers
A member of our own team will be at the airport to meet you on arrival and bring you to the field campus in a private bus with your fellow participants – and we’ll take you back the same way for your flight home.
Volunteer Experience
You’ll spend a full day volunteering at our partner Community Health Centre, as a chance to make a really hands-on contribution that directly helps the centre provide essential primary health services where they are most needed.
Comprehensive Orientation
A strong orientation is essential to making the most of the intense learning experience. Your first day includes an in-depth briefing with your mentor to discuss your personal learning objectives, introductions to the Tanzanian healthcare system and cultural sensitivity, and comprehensive safety briefings.
Certificate of Clinical Experience & References
Provided you complete the program to your mentor’s satisfaction, you will be issued with an official Certificate of Clinical Experience and personal Letter of Recommendation from your mentor (a Medical Doctor).
Professional, helpful support from our real people
Before you travel, our Participation Team is here to support and guide you in all your preparations. We’re real people, delighted to talk to you on the phone or by email – we never use chatbots or other such infuriating things!
In Tanzania, you’ll be supported 24 hours a day by our own wonderful team.
